I keep getting Emails from people asking me to re-upload the links and music etc. I think people are just getting to those particular pages so are not reading the reason for the dead links.
So I am putting this in place so hopefully people will read it and stop Emailing me about it.
The reason the links are dead is that my account with Media Fire has been closed with all 11,000 files lost. That is why you can not download the things and No I can not re-upload them.
Eventually I will start doing that again when I have found something suitable. In the meantime this blog will be information only blog.

'Voyage Voyage' is a 1986 song written by Jean-Michel Rivat and recorded by the French singer Desireless. It was the first single from her album François and became a hit in many countries in Europe.
'Voyage Voyage', a song sung exclusively in French, managed the rare feat of featuring in several countries top hits which are usually closed to francophone songs and artists.
In Germany, the song topped the chart and has the longest chart trajectory of 1987 in the Top 20. Curiously, the song failed to reach number 1 in France, but stayed at number 2 for four weeks, behind Elsa Lunghini with her first hit 'T'en vas pas', and remained on the chart for 21 weeks.
The single also managed to be the biggest selling single in Spain in 1987 with more than 200,000 copies sold. The single managed number 53 in the UK singles Chart in 1987. However, the song reached the Top 10 in both the United Kingdom, number 5, and Ireland, number 4, upon re-release in 1988.

'A Question of Lust' is Depeche Mode's sixteenth UK single, released on 14 April 1986.
It is the second Depeche Mode single with Martin Gore on lead vocals, after 'Somebody' and the first to be released in its own right. However, the 12 inch single was released as a double A-side with 'A Question of Time' in the US.
The B-side is an instrumental called 'Christmas Island', named after the island of the same name. It is penned by both Martin Gore and Alan Wilder and was produced by Depeche Mode themselves.
The live tracks available on some versions of the single are taken from a 1984 concert in Basel, Switzerland.
The music video for 'A Question of Lust' brings about the return of director Clive Richardson for his last video with the band. At the beginning of the video, Martin can be seen running around naked at a club with bandmates and staff trying to cover him up.

'You're the Voice' is a song written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson for John Farnham, which he recorded for his sixteenth album Whispering Jack released in 1986.
The song was awarded the 1987 Aria Award for "Single of the Year".
The song was one of the biggest hits of the year in Australia, topping the singles chart there for many weeks. It is also one of Farnham's biggest international successes, reaching the top 10 in many European countries, although in the US it performed relatively poorly. It made number 6 in the UK Singles chart.
BMG/RCA re-released the song in the US in February 1990, after Farnham made the Adult Contemporary charts with 'Two Strong Hearts'. It spent 8 weeks on the charts, peaking only at number 82.

'On My Own" was a hit duet by singers Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald when it was released as a single in 1986.
It was released from LaBelle's first platinum album, Winner in You and was written and produced by Burt Bacharach and his former wife Carole Bayer Sager.
The song was originally recorded by singer Dionne Warwick for inclusion on her album Friends. It is unclear why the song was not included on the final tracklist. The song was based on a relationship that had reached its end with both parties going their separate ways in a melancholy state with the occasional option of coming back together again one day.
It was often stated the two performers were in separate cities when they recorded their individual parts which were then "married" during mastering. This was reflected in the music video produced to promote the song, which depicted LaBelle and McDonald performing the song simultaneously on different coasts. The singers were shown on separate sides of a split screen, each singing the song while walking through apartments which had identical layouts but different decor and furniture. The views from their respective porches, where they finished the song, made clear their separation by the continent.
The song became the biggest single ever for both singers, both of whom were members of respective funk/R&B groups in the 1970s, as it hit number one on the Billboard magazine pop, for 3 weeks, the R&B and Adult Contemporary charts, as well as number two in the UK singles chart, going gold, it was the 22nd best-selling single of 1986 in the UK.
The song was initially not intended to be a duet at all, but LaBelle decided to invite McDonald to help her turn the song into a duet, as she stated: "The song was sent to me and I did a version of it but somehow it just didn't quite work. We were going over things I'd done and we talked about turning it into a duet. Someone asked, 'If you could do it with anyone, who would you sing it with,' and Michael was my first choice..."

'Breakout' is a single from British pop act Swing Out Sister's debut album It's Better to Travel.
The single reached the number four position in the UK in 1986, and rose to number six pop and number one adult contemporary in the U.S. in 1987.
The song also resulted in a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
The music video for 'Breakout' features lead singer Corinne Drewery as a fashion designer, who with the assistance of the other two band members designs and makes her own dress, and later makes a successful debut modelling it. It was directed by Nick Willing.

'I Ran' (also released as 'I Ran (So Far Away') is a song by English New Wave band A Flock of Seagulls.
It was released on their debut album A Flock of Seagulls in 1982.
In the UK the single made it to number 43 in the Single Charts. However 'I Ran' was the bands most successful single elsewhere, reaching number 9 in the United States and number 1 in Australia. The single was promoted by a distinctive music video in which the band members performed in a room covered in aluminum foil and mirrors. It received heavy rotation on MTV in the summer of 1982, and helped the single to become a hit. The video features a different edit of 'I Ran' than the album version; the introduction was greatly shortened.

The Style Council recorded 'Have you ever had it blue' for the soundtrack of the movie 'Absolute beginners'.
After David Bowie's song of the same name was released as a single, the Style Council's track was the next single to be taken from the soundtrack album.
Although this single couldn't match the success of Bowie's track, it still managed to climb to number 14 in the UK singles chart.

'God Thank You Woman' was the second single realeased in the UK from Culture Club's 1986 album 'From Luxury To Hearache'.
The single peaked at number 31 in the UK Singles Chart and number 48 in Australia.
The single was never released in the US as 'Gusto Blusto' was choosen to be released instead.

The Beat, known in North America as The English Beat, are a 2 Tone ska revival band founded in England in 1978. The Beat were formed in Birmingham, England during a period of high unemployment and social upheaval in the United Kingdom.
Their songs fuse ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, and their lyrics deal with themes of love, unity and sociopolitical topics.
'Hands Off She's Mine' was released as the second single by The Beat in February 1980. The single appeared on their first album release entitled I Just Can't Stop It. 'Hands Off She's Mine' managed to make it to number 9 in the UK singles Chart while making number 22 on the US Dance Chart.

The 19th single to be released by Imagination was entitled 'Instinctual'. Released on RCA Records in 1987 the single made it to number 62 in the UK Singles Charts and was to be the bands last chart entry.
The single did however make it to number one on the dance charts for one week.

'Pull Up to the Bumper' was the second single released by Grace Jones from her critically-acclaimed 1981 album Nightclubbing and has since come to be one of Jones' signature tunes. The song was co-written by Jones herself, Sly Dunbar, Dana Mano and Robbie Shakespeare.
Upon its release, the song spent seven weeks at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, as well as becoming a Top-5 single on the U.S. R&B chart.
The original 1981 release peaked at number 53 on the UK Singles Chart. It was re-released as a single in 1985, then with the 1977 recording of the song 'La Vie en Rose' as the B-side, and this reached number 12 on the UK pop chart in early 1986.

Released by the San Francisco dance label Megatone, which was owned by legendary (revolutionary) Synth dance producer Patrick Cowley.
Songs where written and produced by James Tip Wirrick who also performed everything.
The song 'Do you Wanna Funk' which is written and produced by Cowley was added to the album becuase it had become a hit months before the album release.

The Blow Monkeys are a British pop band that formed in 1981 as a new wave-oriented act.
Their first hit came, in 1986, with 'Digging Your Scene', from their second album, Animal Magic (which reached number 21 in the UK Albums Chart).
The single attracted attention for the topical lyrics, dealing with the AIDS-fuelled backlash against gay people. It peaked at number 12 in the UK Singles Chart, number 14 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, number 7 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, number 24 in Italy and number 25 in Germany.

Pseudo Echo is an Australian band which plays New Romantic style of music. The band was formed in 1982, by schoolmates, Brian Canham (vocalist, guitar and keyboard player) and Pierre Gigliotti (bass and keyboard player). The other two members of the group were, Anthony Argiro (drum player) and Tony Lugton (guitar and keyboard player).
In 1986 the band covered a song called 'Funky Town',which was an original hit for Lipps Inc back in 1980 (also available on this blog).
The band gave the song a different sound, less of early eighties' electronica and more of later eighties' rock, including a guitar solo in the middle. Pseudo Echo's version made number 8 in the UK Singles Charts, in 1987, and spent seven weeks at Number 1 in Australia, (Lipps Inc.'s was at No. 1 for only two weeks in Australia). The single also made Number 6 US hit in July of the following year and in August a Number 1 hit in Canada.

'Once in a Lifetime' is a song by Talking Heads, from their album Remain in Light.
Written by David Byrne, Brian Eno, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth, it made number 14 in the UK charts and number 31 in The Netherlands
The verses of the song consist of David Byrne speaking rather than singing. With the lyrics "Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down," the song has an existential mood to it, although it is usually interpreted to be a song dealing with the midlife crisis and the inevitable sacrifice of youthful ideals and dreams for conventional success.
The music video features a bespectacled David Byrne dancing much like a marionette. Some of Byrne's mannerisms (such as physical spasms, unfocussed eye movements, and sharp intakes of breath) were inspired by his choreographer Toni Basil showing him footage of epilepsy sufferers. Salsa is a 1988 romance film about a lower-class Puerto Rican dancer who decides to improve his lot in life by entering a salsa dancing contest. The film was directed by Boaz Davidson, and stars Robby Rosa, Rodney Harvey, and Angela Alvarado.
In a nightly escape from his day job as a mechanic, Rico (Robby Rosa) enters his true element: the wild exuberance of the East L.A. "La Luna" salsa club.
Dreaming of making himself and Vicky (Angela Alvarado), his girlfriend the "King and Queen of Salsa", Rico pours all his energy into winning La Luna's Grand Salsa Competition. After the record company had released several singles from Tears for fears' debut album 'The hurting', the band released a new single, 'The way you are' towards the end of 1983. It was the band's sixth single release overall and their fourth UK top 40.
The single kept the band in the public eye while they were working on their second album. It peaked at number 23 in the UK and as such didn't live up to the expectations caused by the three top 5 singles taken from 'The hurting'.
The single, which heavily featured sampling and programmed rhythms, led to a departure in Tears for Fears' musical approach. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith have been uncompromising in their dislike for the song in the years following its release, Orzabal stating it was "the point we realized we had to change direction", while Smith was even more direct in proclaiming it "the worst thing we've done".

'Friends' is the sixth album by American R&B group Shalamar, released in 1982 on the SOLAR label.
The album features the 'classic' Shalamar line-up (Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewett and Jody Watley). It made number 6 on the UK singles chart, topped the R&B chart and peaked at number 35 on the Billboard chart.
In the UK Friends gained impetus from a now-legendary demonstration of body-popping by Daniel during a performance of 'A Night to Remember' on the BBC programme Top of the Pops.
the album produced four top 20 singles. It is now regarded in the UK as one of the defining albums of 1982.
In 2002, Friends was re-released by Sanctuary Records in the United Kingdom in a Double CD package with Shalamar's previous album Go for It.

'Right Here Waiting' was the second single from Richard Marx, taken from the album 'Repeat Offender'.
Marx wrote it on the road as a love letter to his wife, actress Cynthia Rhodes, who was in South Africa shooting for a film. In an era of power ballads, 'Right Here Waiting' distinguished itself by its understatement'
In the UK the single was released in September 1989 and made it to number 2 in the Singles Chart. The single made it to number 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 singles Chart.
The song is sometimes incorrectly attributed to Bryan Adams, although Adams had never performed it.

'Hunting High and Low' is a song by Norwegian new wave band A-ha. It was released as the fourth international and final single from the band's debut album, 'Hunting High and Low'.
'Hunting High and Low' was released in the summer of 1986 and became the third most successful single from their album, on the rock charts, and one of the band's most recognizable and popular songs.
The song didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but charted in Britain where its peak was number 5 and in Ireland where it peaked at number 4.
The album version was produced by Tony Mansfield and is played with synthesizers, the single remix produced by Alan Tarney features an orchestra.
This was the last video from the band's debut album which was directed by Steve Barron.
The UK TV show Blue Peter featured a making-of-the-video special on 'Hunting High and Low' to demonstrate the morphing effects of Morten into animals.

'Town Called Malice' is a song recorded by The Jam from the album The Gift. It reached number one in the UK singles chart.
It was a double A-side single release featuring 'Precious' as the flip side. A 12 inch version was also available with a live version of 'Town Called Malice' backed by an extended version of 'Precious'.
Released as the first single from the album on 29 January 1982, it entered the chart at number one on the British music charts, staying at the top for three weeks, and preventing 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers from reaching number one. EMI, the Stranglers record company, objected to the sales of both formats of 'Town Called Malice' being aggregated, arguing that Jam fans were buying both versions and thus preventing their band from reaching the top of the charts.
It was the band's third number-one single in the UK. It was the band's sole chart entry onto any American chart (although this single and 'Start!' both appeared in the low-rungs of the Billboard Dance/Club Play charts) when it hit number 31 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in 1982.
Paul Weller has said that it was written about his hometown Woking as a result of his teenage experiences there.
A music video of the song was filmed and was in moderate rotation on MTV in 1982 and 1983.

Climie Fisher were a UK pop duo formed by vocalist Simon Climie (born 7th April 1957) and former Naked Eyes keyboardist Rob Fisher (5th November 1956 - 25th August 1999).
The single had originally been made as a ballad version. However, the single was given a hip-hop style remix and it became a hit.
The single made it to number 10 in the UK Singles Chart, number 1 in South African, Number 14 in Germany, number 17 in Sweden and number 19 in Austria.

English Settlement is an album by British band XTC released on 12 February 1982. The album reached Number 5 on the UK Album Chart and Number 48 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Arguably XTC's defining album, English Settlement is a significant milestone of the band's ability as musicians and songwriters. Some prevalent lyrical themes include the preservation of buildings, world peace, youthful rebellion, and the frustrations of love.
The cover design is based upon the Uffington White Horse, which is about 6 miles east of Swindon, the home town of XTC.
The album spawned three UK singles: 'Senses Working Overtime' (released on 8th January 1982 and reaching Number 10 on the UK singles chart); 'Ball And Chain' (released 26th February 1982 and reaching Number 58 on the UK singles chart); and 'No Thugs in Our House' (released 14th May 1982).
English Settlement is the last XTC album recorded while Terry Chambers was still a full member, although Chambers did appear on a few tracks of Mummer. The band's retirement from the road, caused by Partridge's nervous breakdown, meant that he could no longer make money as the band's drummer, only as a guest performer.

'Take My Breath Away' is the name of a love song from the film Top Gun.
The song was written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock and performed by the band Berlin. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986.
The music video features scenes from the movie Top Gun intermingled with Berlin's singer Terri Nunn performing the song in blue coveralls walking between pieces of planes in a windy aircraft boneyard (part of the Mojave Air & Space Port) at night. Bandmates John Crawford and Rob Brill are shown relaxing in the yard and then following Terri. This video clip can be seen occasionally in VH1 Europe's Top 10 Movie Soundtracks program.

'Hazard' is a 1991 song performed by adult contemporary artist Richard Marx. It has since become one of the most popular songs by Richard Marx
'Hazard' tells the story of an implied relationship of some kind between Marx's character (usually considered the protagonist) and a woman named Mary. Mary is presumably murdered and Marx, shunned by many in the small town since his childhood, is immediately considered the main suspect. Marx, however, maintains his innocence throughout the song, and the question of such is left open to the listener's interpretation.
This song about a fictional event was named after the real town of Hazard, Nebraska. Reportedly, Marx became caught on the phrase "...and leave this old Nebraska town." He needed a two-syllable town name to fit the first line of the song, so he obtained a list of the names of all two-syllable towns and cities in Nebraska, from which he chose Hazard.

'Senses Working Overtime' is a single by XTC and released in 1982. It is at once the apogee of their early-eighties British popularity as well as their last gasp of mainstream success in the UK.
While it hit the number 10 on the UK Singles Chart, the single helped their album 'English Settlement' reach number 5 on the album charts.
The single would also be their last Top 40 entry for a decade.

Released as the fourth single from their debut album 'The lexicon of love', ABC hit number 5 in the UK with 'All of my heart', a beautiful ballad with orchestral backing. It was one of the standout tracks from the album.
The orchestral theme was visible on the whole of the release: the four members of the band posed as classical musicians on the sleeve and the B-side was 'Overture', essentially a medley of tracks from 'The lexicon of love' played by a full orchestra and arranged by Anne Dudley.
The single was written by lead singer Martin Fry and released by Neutron Records.

'Forget Me Nots' is a 1982 hit recording by R&B singer songwriter Patrice Rushen.
Originally deemed by record label executives as a "flop", Rushen released the song and the song became a hit making number 8 on the UK Singles Chart, number 23 on the Hot 100 US Billboard Charts, number 4 on the R&B US Charts and number 2 on the US Dance Chart and is the hit she's most notable for.
Patrice Rushen was nominated for a Grammy Award on the Grammy Awards 25th anniversary for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Rushen had a number of songs on the R & B and Jazz charts, but this was her only U.S. Top 40 hit, her first UK top 40 hit and ranked number 86 on VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 1980s.
The bass line is particularly recognizable, and was performed on the record by session bass player Freddie Washington.
The lyrics are from the point of view of one professing her longing for a rekindling with an ex-lover. She ruminates on the romance's end, and sends the lover forget-me-nots, a flower that since medieval times has been given and worn to symbolize enduring love despite absence or separation.
Along with being prominently featured in Tom Hanks hit movie, Big, the song has been heavily sampled by artists in different genres including George Michael's 'Fastlove' (which samples the song near the end) and Will Smith's 1997 blockbuster smash, 'Men in Black'.

Thompson Twins found themselves functioning as a trio as of 1982. The single 'In the name of love' had become a hit, and Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway wanted to pursue the single's different sound. They toyed with the idea of starting a new band on the side, which they planned to call 'The Bermuda Triangle'. John Hade, their manager, convinced them to downsize their original band, Thompson Twins.
Their first hit as a trio was 'Love on your side', a track that even quoted 'In the name of love' for a few seconds. The single reached number 9 in the UK singles chart,and provided the group with their first top 10 hit in the UK.

Andrew Poppy is an English composer, pianist, and record producer.
In the mid 1980s he signed to Paul Morley and Trevor Horn's ZTT Records pursuing a post minimal aesthetic in the context of a pop label.
'Alphabed (A Mystery Dance)' was Poppy's 2nd album release for ZTT, being released in 1987. The album merges traditional composition and studio production techniques in its use of sequencers, samples and electronic keyboards and includes a variety of singers including Annette Peacock, Ashley Slater, Udo Scheuerpflug and Dee Lewis.

'Why?' is a single from the British synthpop trio Bronski Beat and appeared on their 1984 album 'The Age of Consent'.
The song, recorded at RPM Studios, NYC and mixed at Townhouse Studio, London, pursued an energetic musical formula, while the lyrics focused more centrally on anti-gay prejudice.
The song opens with a questioning vocal by frontman and vocalist Jimmy Sommerville and the shattering of breaking glass.
It was the trio's second Top 10 success in the UK, peaking at number 6, also reaching the Top 10 throughout Europe and in Australia and is today considered a popular gay anthem.

'Thank You for the Music' was the twenty-sixth and final UK single for Swedish pop group ABBA, released in November 1983 to promote the Epic Records compilation 'Thank You for the Music: A Collection of Love Songs'. The Super Trouper album track 'Our Last Summer' was the B-side.
'Thank You for the Music' had actually been recorded six years earlier, in 1977, and was featured on the group's LP 'The Album'.
It was also the B-side of the 1978 single 'Eagle', which itself was only released in limited territories, namely Belgium, West Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Australia (though in some territories it was released as a double A-side).
'Thank You for the Music' also formed part of ABBA: The Movie. It was however released as an A-side single in South Africa where it peaked at number 2 in August 1978 and became the 18th best selling single for that year.
Agnetha Fältskog performed the lead vocal, with Anni-Frid Lyngstad joining in on the chorus. 'Thank You for the Music' was intended to form part of a "mini-musical" called "The Girl with the Golden Hair" (a phrase which is featured in the song) that songwriters Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson included in ABBA's 1977 tour. It was the opening track in the four-song musical, along with 'I Wonder (Departure)', 'I'm a Marionette' and 'Get on the Carousel'. These tracks appear on The Album, with the exception of the latter, which remains unreleased to this day.
'Gracias por la Música' is the Spanish language recording of 'Thank You for the Music', with lyrics by Buddy and Mary McCluskey. The B-side was the Spanish language version of 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)' titled '¡Dame! ¡Dame! ¡Dame!'. The song was released in 1980 to promote the band's Spanish language album/compilation Gracias Por La Música. This was their seventh highest-selling Spanish single, and also reached No.4 in Argentina.
'Thank You for the Music' was released only in the UK at the time, peaking at a lowly Number 33, despite being released in both a poster sleeve and a picture disc in addition to the regular version. The low chart placing could be attributed to ABBA's declining popularity since their last Top 10 hit in 1981. But also, because of the song's inclusion on The Album and Greatest Hits Vol.2 (both of which topped the UK charts), as well as being performed by the band during their world tours, it can be said that 'Thank You for the Music' had been heard by fans and the like many times up to this point. The title itself is often also taken to signal the end of ABBA, leading it to be considered a farewell song.

Jermaine Stewarts third album 'Say it Again' was his most successful internationally.
The title track provided Stewart with his 7th single release.
The single made it to number 7 in the UK singles charts while also making it to number 27 in the US Pop Charts and number 15 in the US R&B Charts.

'Oblivious' was the 4th single to be released by Aztec Camera.
The single was from the 'High Land, Hard Rain' album and was originally released in January 1983 where is managed to reach number 47 on the UK Singles Charts. However the single did manage to make it to number 1 on the UK Indie Chart.
In October of the same year the single was released again but this time proved more successful making it to number 18 on the Uk singles Charts.

'Voyage Voyage' is a 1986 song written by Jean-Michel Rivat and recorded by the French singer Desireless. It was the first single from her album François and became a hit in many countries in Europe.
